St. Joseph is one of 32 Iowa schools chosen to partner with Code.org to utilize their new Computer Science Discoveries curriculum. Teachers from partnering districts traveled to Houston this summer for a five day conference on implementing the program. More training is provided throughout the year. St. Joseph technology teacher, Dee Hamlett, attended the conference and will be teaching the curriculum to the middle school students this year.
The vision is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra. Code.org organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign and provides the leading curriculum for K-12 computer science in the largest school districts in the United States. St. Joseph was the only private school selected of the 32 Iowa schools chosen to participate.
