Board of Education News

At the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday evening, the Board discussed the calendar for 2010-2011.  No action was taken on this item, and the calendar is scheduled to be adopted on April 13th.  In other action, the Board granted permission for the Shamrock committee to pursue the purchase of a 90 day raffle license.

The Board entered closed session to take up the issue of staff reduction.  At that time I presented to the Board the names of those teachers recommended for non-renewal due to staff reduction.  A total of 6.4 FTE was recommended for staff reduction, but no action was taken that evening.  This recommendation effects ten members of the St. Joseph Catholic School faculty.  While this recommendation was deeper than originally anticipated, it was based solely on a budget enrollment of 159 students that had registered at the time registration closed.  Moving forward, there are no plans to eliminate any scholastic programming at St. Joseph Catholic School.

All staff members that have been impacted have been notified.  Please check out my blog for tips on how to handle interactions with the staff during this difficult time.  In the coming days, I will be visiting with each member of the staff to share with them grade level assignments for the 2010-2011 academic year.  There will be no official statement regarding this reduction in force or teacher assignments for the 2010-2011 academic year prior to Board action.

Please continue to pray for the entire staff.
